A single standard window (roughly 1.5 square metres) costs $120 to $300 depending on the film grade. Entry-level solar film sits at the lower end; premium ceramic film with higher heat rejection sits at the upper end. Most residential jobs of three to four windows cost $400 to $800 total. A full home with ten to fifteen windows runs $1,500 to $3,500. Privacy and decorative films fall within the same range. Safety and security films cost slightly more per square metre because the film is thicker.

Modern ceramic solar films reject 40 to 60 per cent of solar heat while only reducing visible light by 20 to 30 per cent — the room stays bright but noticeably cooler. Older-generation dyed and metallic films did darken rooms significantly, which is where this concern comes from. We bring sample cards in multiple tint levels so you can hold them against your glass in real daylight before deciding. Most homeowners are surprised how little visual difference there is with a quality ceramic film.

It depends on the film and the glass. Standard solar film on double glazing can cause thermal stress — the film absorbs heat, the inner pane heats unevenly, and the sealed air gap expands. This can crack the glass or break the seal, voiding the window warranty. We only use films specifically rated for double glazing, and we check your glass type before quoting. Some windows are fine; some are not. We will tell you straight if film is not the right answer for a particular window.

Most residential jobs take two to four hours. A full home with ten to fifteen windows is typically a half-day job. The film needs a clean glass surface, a slip solution, and a firm squeegee pass to bond — each window takes about ten to fifteen minutes. The film cures fully in about two weeks depending on season and sun exposure. During curing you may see small moisture pockets or a slight haze — this is normal and clears as the adhesive dries.

No. One-way mirror film works by reflecting light on the brighter side. During the day, the outside is brighter, so people see their reflection and you see through from inside. At night, your interior lights are brighter than the street, and the effect reverses — people outside can see in. For night-time privacy you need a blind, curtain, or frosted film. Frosted film gives 24-hour privacy but you lose the clear view. Most clients pair one-way film with a roller blind for the best of both.
