Common questions
Blinds questions, answered
A standard roller blind on a window up to 1400mm wide costs around $150 installed in a mid-range blockout or sunscreen fabric. Between 1400mm and 2000mm it sits at about $170, and wider openings from 2000mm to 2400mm come in around $200. Above 2800mm wide we quote individually because those sizes need a heavier tube and upgraded brackets. A full house with ten to twelve windows typically runs $1,500 to $2,500 for rollers.
From deposit to install is usually two to three weeks for standard roller blinds in stock fabrics. Romans take slightly longer because of the batten and lining construction. Motorised blinds can run four to six weeks if the motor needs to be ordered separately. We confirm exact lead time on your written quote before you pay anything.
Blockout fabric has a foam or acrylic coating on the back that blocks all light, making it the default for bedrooms and media rooms. Sunscreen fabric has a visible weave with openings, typically 1 to 5 per cent, that cuts glare and UV while letting you see through to the outside during the day. Translucent sits between the two, where it softens and diffuses light without full blockout, and is common in living rooms and kitchens. The price is the same across all three in a standard range; the choice is about what the room needs.
Not for battery or solar-charged motors. The motor sits inside the roller tube and is powered by a rechargeable lithium pack that lasts six to twelve months between charges depending on use. Hardwired motors that connect to a home automation system do need an electrician to run a cable to the window head, so those are best planned during a build or renovation when walls are open.
Yes, and it is very common. Roller blinds mount on two small brackets, typically four screw holes per window. The damage is minimal and most landlords approve it because blinds add rental value. We can also do a face-fix mount on the wall above the window if the landlord does not want the frame drilled.
